Kik Cross Platform Messenger is Back for BlackBerrys

Kik Back

Kik made a name for themselves as a pretty solid cross platform IM client similar to BBM. They got into some serious business with RIM ending up with feuding lawsuits and RIM pulling Kik’s code signing keys. Terry let us know that Kik is now back and sent out an email to their BlackBerry users about a new Kik version for BlackBerry. It seems like this version is a J2ME app which does not require BlackBerry code signing keys but means it will have very little integration with the rest of the BlackBerry OS. On the other hand it lets Kik make a statement like:

Note: RIM has not endorsed or approved this application for installation on any BlackBerry devices.

  1. I have installed and uninstalled this twice. It will work initially then all of a sudden, my BB will not received any emails/BBMs bec the BB logo beside the signal indicator is gone. A soft reset might help or if I switch on the wifi. But when I uninstall the app, no more problems with BB data. I tried this twice to confirm. I am in an area with strong signal so it is not a phone signal issue. Am using a BB 9900.

  2. Cannot install. I get 907 Invalid JAD. I’ve emailed KIK and was told to try download via wifi because “the file may be too big”. That didn’t work either. Maybe this version just doesn’t work on the 9650. I do have a working previous version.

  3. Good for you, friends. I on the other hand cannot enjoy the privilege yet. How many still rock a storm2 out there? Am I alone? 🙂 Waiting for the day Kik supports my device.
