BlackBerry Smartphone Models and their Codenames in One Chart (FAQ)

Circle of BlackBerry bridgePair

I cannot count the times that I have been asked for a chart of the different BlackBerry models and the codenames associated with them. I finally got some free time on the train earlier this week and started compiling a list of the codenames I remembered off the top of my head. They should all be right but I am counting on all of you to keep me honest. There are also new unannounced models like the upcoming Curve “All Touch” Malibu (CDMA) and others that are not 100% confirmed yet but let us know in the comments if we missed any. I am also blanking on the codename for the original BlackBerry Bold 9900…

  1. Good grief Ronen, you have been busy, lol!!

What a lot of ridiculous code names – which I suppose is the point, lol, because you certainly don’t get an image of a mobile phone when you see them in the written form or say them out loud.

  2. 8800 series was named as huron. 😉

  3. Bold 9900 original name…Magnum.

    Original Bold 9000…Meteor.

  4. the 9788 is shanghai not onyx

  5. the 9788 is shanghai and i believe the 8310,8320,8330 are Saturn

  6. @Nabeel I thought it was called Indigo. Ill punch Huron on the list as a possibility.
@TheHater I remember it being called Magnum in original leaks. I will put that up too
@Richard I actually went by RIMs own docs to get Onyx. I will put Shanghai on the chart
@Prepayisland hmm i have never heard Saturn before but I will include it

Thanks for helps all. As I said I did this on the subway and then confirmed it with internal docs we have received over the years. Going to confirm it with friends at RIM once I get as good as I can.

  7. Taking notes for the test 🙂
