Updated: Possible Screenshots of BBM Running on Android?

UPDATE: Bla1ze pointed out in the comments that one of those screenshots seem to be pulled from this RIM blog post pointing to this being a false rumor

BBM Android BBM Android2

Its Monday and with it comes the weekly rumor grind. First up this week are some intriguing yet uninformative purported images of an Android device running BBM. Very little is shown off other than a homescreen shortcut along with a default PINH and a status of BBM SDK Demo. Check it out and let us know what you think of it!

Kudos to TechRadar for catching the images and the tipsters who sent this in!

  1. That’s the default PIN for a BlackBerry simulator.

  2. Given the number of Android-related sessions planned for DevCon’11, I’m starting to wonder if RIM sees Android as the new Java SDK for their future QNX-based devices.

If so, this may just be a screenshot of an internal prototype of something that’s only going to become publicly available on QNX-based RIM phones/tablets.

  3. Untill it is released, I’ll call fake on this.

They did say it was not on their roadmap on a meeting remember?

  4. Lets put the fake part aside for a moment. If this was possible, they would be going back to BB Connect type scenario which would have to facilitate a PIN. I don’t see this happening based on previous efforts with BB Connect and we all know where that went.

  5. BBM on Android, WP7 and iOS would be great for users and for RIMs business. I really dont understand why RIM want to do it.

    • As much as that may be good for business. RIM have let go of the underlying needs for RIM infrastructure connectivity before in the form of BB Connect (as noted above) and that attempt at the BB App for Windows that emulated a BB live on a windows device. That never came to fruition and was also dumped.

I am finding it hard to believe RIM will venture down this road again.
