RIM Going All in for Rugby World Cup 2011 With Apps & Facebook Fun

The Rugby World Cup 2011 is currently going on down under and ends on October 23rd. RIM is one of the official sponsors of the event and they are there in full force and even giving away BlackBerry PlayBooks. They have thrown up a dedicated landing page for their Rugby World Cup 2011 activities at There is also a BlackBerry Smartphone and PlayBook Rugby World Cup app in App World that we mentioned previously.

Last but not least my favorite part is their BlackBerry Australia and New Zealand Face Pain Facebook app that they have going. On the respective Facebook pages you can show your team colors by painting your face though sadly it crashed my browser before I could get a screenshot. Check it out here or all the details on the Inside BlackBerry blog.

  1. They need to focus on qnx and go all in on apple and google and don’t depend on microsoft to fire first.

  2. When Vincent Washington was heading RIM Sports, I suggested an app offer up the HD video rules and explanations of Rugby, similar to what we’re doing with Baseball, he liked, but somehow his bosses in Waterloo were un-impressed. Now Vincent is gone, so to might the company. Here’s one of our creations on iTunes:
Its free, so go for it!

  3. RIM needs something new to improve qnx smartphone!
