AT&T Making BlackBerry PlayBook Announcement Tomorrow?

AT&T PlayBook Tweet

One of the things that has been pissing me off since the BlackBerry PlayBook launched in AT&T’s stubborn refusal to release the BlackBerry Bridge app. RIM is somewhat at fault too for letting AT&T block access to it in App World but users have found ways around that. Still an interesting tweet by @Gina713214, a RIM employee in the BlackBerry PlayBook division, make me think this might be changing as early as tomorrow at noon. The Tweet says:

AT&T BlackBerry/Playbook users…Annoucement tomorrow at noon (sic)

While it could be AT&T selling the BlackBerry PlayBook in stores or even an announcement for a “4G” BlackBerry PlayBook on AT&T’s HSPA+ network. Still my bet is on RIM and AT&T making an announcement tomorrow that Bridge is now available for AT&T users. What do you think?

  1. That’s great but i got a feeling at&t is up to something……..now you gotta watch out for tethering fees….

  2. Yup. But it every company does it. Its like the main objective for every company. But some company over do it and att is one.

  3. Well Verizon let’s me tether for free

  4. I don’t know if its free but I been using it a lot and my bill has been the same with no interuptions I’m scared to call them & ask if its unlimited they might shut me down with a bill

  5. Does anybody know how to send news to berryerview I got something I need them to post

  6. It is about time (a masterpiece of understatement). It would be nice if there was a Bridge upgrade to sweeten the announcement, too. And while I’m wishing, go right ahead and announce a branded Playbook or two, and throw in some 9900 and Torch II news while you have our attention!

  7. I posted in the forums but I highly doubt AT&T would say anything to make they customers happy main reason why I went to Verizon

  8. It’s always more money w/ATT… Pffft Mo’ Money for them Mo’ problems for us….

  9. Maybe AT&T wasn’t aware, but according to the page http://m.blackberry.com/us/en/support-playbook.html, the Playbook software 1.05 update log states:

    Software update v1.0.5:
BlackBerry® Bridge™ support for AT&T and Verizon customers

    So what’s the real story?

  10. I got tired of the outrageous fees with AT&T so I jumped ship for Virgin Mobile. Still got my playbook but it is hooked up to my LG Optimus V via the mobile hotspot. Works just fine. :)

  11. I hope it’s something worth listening to. I’m praying they don’t charge for tethering fees…

  12. Seems to me that AT&T support for the BlackBerry Bridge would not be much of any announcement when every other carrier on the planet is already supporting it.

What would be an “announcement” would be release dates of new hardware but I doubt that is going to happen. Perhaps the Torch2 will get official, that would be something at least.

  13. Hmmm maybe NOT the announcement they are gonna make, but I just saw ATT has temaed up w/Zynga (the ppl behind social gaming like Farmville) to offer a social gaming platform for its subscribers… Android apps being mentioned not so much the playbook still, a very big partnership! http://www.phonearena.com/news/AT-T-teams-up-with-Zynga-on-customized-social-gaming-experience-for-its-subscribers_id20029

  14. looks like it’s the bridge thing…WHICH CHARGERS FOR TETHERING.
