RIM Rumored to Discontinue BES Express for Lotus Domino

BES Express Box

I have long wondered how many clients RIM has on Lotus Domino. RIM seems to have a strong partnership with IBM and they obviously have customers requesting support for the platform. The latest rumor from CIO.com comes from an unnamed source who is familiar with the situation saying that RIM is considering shuttering BES Express for Lotus Domino.

It could simply be that RIM has seen very little interest in Lotus Domino for BES Express. It would have to be for companies that have Lotus but don’t want to pony up for a full BES license. I am curious if any of you are running on a BES with Lotus Domino. How does it work?

  1. Puzzles me too…

  2. In my company we have been using it since years (BES with Lotus). I am not aware of any technical details but from user point of view it is pretty much satisfactory. I also know that there is an option to outsource the maintenance to RIM.

  3. Using BES on Lotus in one of our customers since 5 years ago and no issues so far. Not express anyway.

  4. Hmm then maybe it is just that larger companies are using the full version of BES with Lotus instead of Express. Who knows this is all just a rumor…

Still I am interested in knowing if those companies are using all of the social features in the BES Lotus integration… You guys know?

  5. What you mean by social?
Like using Lotus Sametime and the likes?

  6. Sametime is the same as every other messenger but integrated in the domino domain platform. That’s nice.

    The others didn’t try/use.
