Will RIM Announce PlayBook Sales with June 16th Q1 Financials?

success-failure

We knew before that RIM was going to announce their first quarter fiscal 2012 results on June 16th but it really has me wondering what they will say. They stopped reporting subscriber growth as of last quarter but what I really want to know is if RIM will announce the sales numbers for the BlackBerry PlayBook.

RIM responded to a claim last month that sales of the PlayBook at a major retailer were poor by saying it was inconsistent. They went further and vaguely mentioned that:

As previously indicated, RIM will provide a business update on BlackBerry PlayBook results on June 16.

I am not sure what a business update on BlackBerry PlayBook results means. Will they just say it is good? Will they give actual numbers? The thing is we will sort of be able to tell from what they do or don’t say. If sales are phenomenal they will announce the numbers and if they will clam up. The question is how do we tell the difference between the two. I am hoping Jim Balsillie walk up on stage and announces they have sold about a million PlayBooks…
