AT&T Also Working on a Shared Data Plan With No Timeframe for Release

electrical meter

My dream is finally starting to come true. I remember back in the day when I first tethered my laptop to my phone and my carrier complained. I told my carrier that I was paying for unlimited data and I intended to use it. :) Obviously that argument didn’t fly but since the introduction of limited data plans there was the potential for what I like to call “Data Buckets.” In my ideal world you buy 10GB of data from your carrier and they don’t care if it is used by a laptop, tablet, phone, spaceship, remote control cat, you get the point…

Well first we had Verizon mention they were working on family shared data plans and then T-Mobile did something similar. Now we have AT&T CEO Ralph de la Vega mentioning that they are also working on a shared data plan though they will make no commitments. This all seems to be in the early stages now but I am hoping that wireless data will soon be a utility like electricity or gas. It doesn’t make a difference what you plug into the outlet as long as you pay for what you use.

  1. It would be nice to have a better plan. My wife and I have Blackberries and rarely come close to our 200MB/mo. My kids have iPhones and are always above 200MB/mo so we have them on the 2GB/mo plan but they rarely use that much.

  2. Ditto
