Rumor: T-Mobile Rolling Out Their Own Tiered Data Plans?

T-Mobile Teired data

While AT&T and Verizon have rolled out their useless tiered data plans we are now seeing T-Mobile following in their own way. T-Mobile already limits “Unlimited” plans to EDGE speeds once you use over 5GB a month which is nicer than other carriers that charge you overages. According to the trusty TmoNews T-Mobile is working on both sides of the 5GB spectrum with some new smartphone data plans in the following style:

  • $10 for 200MB
  • $20 for 2GB
  • $30 for 5GB
  • $60 for 10GB

The interesting thing is that, unlike AT&T and Verizon, T-Mobile will simply drop you down to 2G speeds if you cross your data usage bucket. 2G speeds kind of suck but at least you won’t be charged an arm and a leg in overages. According to TmoNews these plans will start rolling out on May 22nd. I would be hard pressed to imagine a BlackBerry using up to 10 gigs but maybe once RIM rolls out the new OS 7 devices with the mobile hotspot feature if T-Mobile does not tag on another “tethering fee.”

  1. What I don’t understand is why Tmo continues to try and compete with AT&T, to the point of making new commercials dogging on coverage and the MyTouch vs the iPhone. Tmo is basically AT&T’s property. They’re talking down the company that is buying them. That’s reassuring…

  2. Ronen,
Is this for new contracts only or are grandfather’d accounts exempt?

P.S. You are on your grind with all these articles yur pumping out. Crackberry is nice for flashy content but your site is where I go for meat and potatoes in my opinion.
