Feed Wheel Advance PlayBook RSS Reader With Google Reader Sync

Most of the RSS readers for the BlackBerry PlayBook lack on options and the option to sync with google reader. Feed Wheel is one of the most advance RSS reader I’ve come across for the PlayBook. The application lets you sync with Google reader and it also syncs read messages.

What I really like is the multiple reading style rendering options that allows you to view the article in web, rss, and split mode. The web mode also allows you to play embedded media. You can also mark messages as read for all the feeds or within a single feed.

App description:

Feed Wheel is an RSS reader with a twist, literally. Feed Wheel lets you scan through your articles using a good old fashioned scroll wheel. If that’s not your thing, you can still scroll through news the way the kids do. You can also customize your hand position so that the scroll wheel and the control buttons are easier to reach. And to make sure everything is synchronized back at your desk, Feed Wheel can optionally synchronize with Google Reader.

I did find some problems with it where it does not sync all my Google feeds but overall is a really good looking RSS reader.

  1. Feed Wheel is a promising app that show’s some of the potential in the Playbook, but for me, it takes a very long time to load and update and provides spotty performance.

There is another RSS reader for the Playbook that’s available in App World, that’s called GeeReader which also has a lot of good features and is being tweaked and upgraded nicely. Some people seem to prefer and have better luck with Feed Wheel, others, GeeReader. It may be a function of how well the respective apps intergrate google reader feed lists.

  2. I’d been eyeballing this for a day and I finally downloaded it yesterday. The product description is why I finally downloaded it. I must confess I don’t download as many FREE apps as I do premium one’s. But this is a decent reader. I’m still using the other one a bit more. But an update for this one and I’m sure I’ll be loving on it a lot more soon.

On another note I do hope RIM sets up an affiliate type deal for sites like yours and mine where we can benefit from doing all these App World reviews. PlayBook has helped bring a lot more of the seasoned users into App World now. So really it would be win win for everyone.

  3. I tried it but I still like GeeReader over it – maybe I should give it more of a chance though.
