Why do I fear that this might be yet another AT&T exclusive? I really don’t want to switch to AT&T, but I may have no choice if I want a decent device.
(Sorry, the Bold Touch doesn’t seem that interesting to me.)
Of course if the AT&T purchase of T-Mobile US is approved, I may have no choice anyways.

I fear the same thing… I would like this phone, but I am a T-Mobile user…

I am shocked the battery is not bigger. It should be the same size as the Bold Touch’s. How can you increase CPU speed, on a touch-screen none-the-less, and not provide a beefier battery. I hate the battery life on my 9650, and really want my next BB to last for more than a day. I’d torn between the Bold Touch and the Torch 2, but the smaller battery in the Torch 2 makes my choice for the Bold Touch easier.

relax dude, current Torch uses the same battery and My Torch goes 2 days on a single charge with moderate usage and most of the times I am on Wifi. Torch is already heavy and a bigger battery will add to more weight to it. Conclusion is that you should be fine with this battery.

All I can say is that the 9650 has a 1400 mAh battery, and I have to charge twice a day. I don’t use Wifi, and keep my open apps to a bare minimum. I’ve bought a 2nd new battery but no help. The only explanation for me is that CDMA uses more power than GSM. When I had a T-Mo 8900 with the same battery I could go 2 days. The Torch 2 has a 1300 mAh battery which is less than my 9650, but at least it will be GSM.

I agree with concerns regarding a small battery. With my current Torch, I consistently sit at 60% after 7 hours of moderate to heavy usage. On my 9700, I was at 60% after 12 hours.
With a bigger processor, the weakest link will be that battery.

So OpenGL ES is software based?

hope you are right. But anything pre-QNX, RIM has been 1-2 years late to the game.
Im no apple troll, but Im stuck with a 1y old Storm2 with an orphan os (5)…

All the BB phones released with OS 6.1 will have OpenGL and NFC. But no luck on the front facing camera. But then, that’s what the playbook is for.

If it would have had a front facing cam I think I would have bought it at full retail price.

Looks good. Maybe when my wife’s phone is due for an upgrade I’ll get it and she can have my first generation Torch. I was leaning towards the Bold Touch initially, but having had the Torch for a few weeks now I am getting used to the larger screen. It would be hard to go back.

Assuming that the battery life doesn’t suffer too much from the upgraded screen and processor (i.e. a long day with two or three hours of screen use and an hour or so of talk time without getting into the dreaded ‘red zone’), this is the phone I’ve been waiting for to replace my aging Pearl 8100.

Torch 2 looks awesome. I’ve heard rumors that the 1.2 is dual core and that there will be a front facing camera on the new torch and storm. Hopefully, these rumors are right.

I’m hoping for the dual core – then the bold touch will be as well and could upgrade to the new os when it comes out
