Google Maps for BlackBerry v4.5.3 Released – No Change Log

Google Maps Upgrade

Google has quietly updated Google Maps for BlackBerry to v4.5.3. There is no word on what is new in this update but its the first update we have seen since theJanuary release of 4.5.2. Check it out and let us know if it works.

Google Maps 4.5.3 is now available directly at m.google.com/maps.

Thanks Nikolaus for the tip!

  1. I haven’t even updated to 4.5.2 yet!! Guess I might get around to this one sometime

  2. Strange was the lack of a splash-screen when first entering the new version, as Google usually has a splash-screen to introduce a new feature. In the few minutes I’ve used it I’d say it is a bit faster and my assisted GPS location came up more accurate and faster than usual. Using 9650/6

  3. I hope this solves the “A serious error has occurred” problem I get on my Torch after a while if I leave it logged into Latitude. When this happens, it locks the GPS so no other apps can access it, until I open Gmaps and see the error.

    • Let us know

      • No go. I left Latitude on today and going back into Gmaps I get “Unknown error:Serious error. Please exit and restart.” I guess I’ll leave Latitude off for now.

        • I’ve played with it like crazy and see nothing new at all…. I do agree, that it does seem a little faster loading maps and finding “my location” but that could be just a coincidence since they won’t tell us what they did….

When will us blackberry’s get 3D Navigation ?? What the hell google ??

  4. Every time I tried using Google Maps on my phone, I always get more lost than when I don’t.

Maybe I’m just not good at using maps.

  5. Wow, I thought this bricked my Torch, since it got stuck on boot-up for almost 10 minutes. The first time I waited 5 minutes and did a battery pull, then it got stuck in the same place again (about 2/3 of the way through). Then all of a sudden it continued booting and now everything seems OK.

    • I’ve recently had my 9700 get stuck in these loooong startups too. Not with g-maps but at other random times. It has never done this before. Odd!?!

  6. Seems to be snappier to me. Faster GPS lock. No problems during installation. I did remove the previous version prior though.
    Thanks for the heads up.

  7. I guess I should upgrade since I was still running 4.4!

  8. This no change log routine is getting old! Devs, PLEASE respect the time of your users and provide this very valuable information.

    • Is it REALLY that disrespectful to not tell users what the difference is between 4.5.2 and 4.5.3? Granted, I wholly agree that there SHOULD be a change log on major and minor (i.e. 1st and 2nd digit) changes, but these 3rd and 4th digit changes in general aren’t bringing any new features so for the vast majority of users aren’t worth their time upgrading. I mean really, if 4.5.2 was working perfectly fine for you, why waste your time and the subsequently required reboot to upgrade? And if you ARE having some problem, you’re probably going to upgrade anyway whether or not Google tells us what bugs they fixed.

  9. I’ve installed it and didn’t notice any difference :/
