BlackBerry Protect Beta Now Available in Europe, Middle East, and Africa

blackberry-protect-screenshot

The response from current BlackBerry Protect Beta users has been overwhelmingly positive. The only people I have seen say anything bad about it was for the lack of support for BES enabled devices or they are on a limited data plan. All in all I think RIM has a real hit on their hands to almost match with BBM as a must have app.

Our buddies over at MiBlackBerry noticed that RIM has fixed one of the flaws in the BlackBerry Protect launch which was the limitation to certain countries. RIM has now extended the beta to users in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East which is nice!

Just as a reminder BlackBerry Protect will backup your:

  • Contacts
  • Calendars
  • Tasks
  • Memos
  • Browser Bookmarks
  • Text Messages

RIM has posted a great guide for getting you started on BlackBerry Protect and I highly recommend reading it. Head on over to the BlackBerry Protect website to get started. There are still some limits on the countries where it is available in App World and it requires OS 4.6+.

  1. There is still no mention whatsoever of the security measures, if any, that are put in place to make sure that nobody, not even RIM, has access to the users’ data.

  2. Use care if you’ve got a older 128MB device. If you have very many apps at all installed, this just may push you into constant memory depletion.

  3. Us BlackBerry 02 UK users are having a lot of trouble signing in on Protect –

just downloaded Protect, its saying “The service plan for your BlackBerry device does not support this application” my plan is ample.
