RIM Launches Facebook 2.0 Beta With Facebook Chat

RIM just let us know that they just launched a beta version of the new Facebook 2.0 in the beta zone. Based on the leaked slides we saw last week we knew this was on the works but I am surprise to see it this soon. Kudos to RIM.
Press release below

Today RIM is pleased to announce that it has launched a new beta version of Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones.

There are currently well over 30 million monthly active users on Facebook for BlackBerry and approximately 21 million active daily users on Facebook for BlackBerry.

Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones is the easiest way for BlackBerry users to access their Facebook account and stay connected to their friends, family and peers while on the go.

Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones v2.0, with a new look and feel, provides a more integrated, compelling mobile Facebook experience and makes it even easier for BlackBerry users to keep track of friends, book meetings and add content to their profiles.  Key features of the app include:

  •          “Always On” Facebook Chat
  • Notifications

  •          Redesigned Navigation Grid
  •          New Notifications Bar
  •          Improved News Feed Scrolling
  •

  •         Enhanced Profiles
  •          Added Publisher Functionality
  •          Updated User Interface
  •
Please note the initial beta release will be available for BlackBerry 6 users only, but support for BlackBerry® Device Software 4.6 and higher will be added in subsequent beta releases and will be available at launch.

    1. Installing now on my 9650/6. They ask you to do a backup first, AND to uninstall your current version of Facebook first. Will write more after 2.0 is installed.

    2. Got it. I’ll post more after some usage.

    3. didn’t get a keycode right away… still waiting

    4. excellent. we’ve killed the beta site… :(

    5. i tell you this with my deepest sympathy FaceBook App for Iphone just got pawned lol. Im the words of all Mcdonalds commercial “I’m Loving it”

    6. Oh snaps, I have OS 4.6 and its only for OS 6 users. Dang I really want a new BB like the Bold Touch very soon.

I can’t even use the Playbook Bridge thing since its only OS 5 or up

Also, the new apps takes more memory that my poor flip is now at the brink end for memory

    7. I have been trying to download it for the past 30 minutes and am still trying. I have performed the backup and removal… now just to get the dang thing!

    8. Server OverLoad. I guess I’ll wait till tonight.

    9. Got it installed. Looks very nice. I am interested to see how the chat feature impacts my battery. I had used “faceChat” program previously but it would KILL my battery life for some odd reason. Will know more tomorrow about this time now. :)

    10. I was excited to see this until I realized it was only for OS6. How about some love for OS5?

    11. I installed this and love it wayy more than the previous version. Nice app!

    12. I love the new UI and FB chat is awesome. They’ve really done a good job.

    13. I’ll wait till open beta. Anyone tried uploading media? I’m just afraid it will crash again

    14. Thanks for the heads up. FINALLY a Facebook client on Blackberry that reallly works without freezing all the time. Chat is cool, but with over 3500 FB friends I’m not interested in that. Aside from the awesome UI, everything is just snappier. Messages, notifications, personal wall looks great. No more having to load up the mobile site to delete posts or use the ‘Search’ function that actually worked. VERY IMPRESSED!

Thanks for the heads up guys, as always.

    15. Very nice! I like the new interface much better. The top banner with icons was taking up too much real estate. Haven’t tested it a lot yet, but feels pretty snappy.

    16. Can i get the link to download facebook v2.0 ? :(

      • You should go to the BlackBerry Beta Zone website and enroll in the program. Then you would hope that they’ll make this particular app available for you to download. Once you’re allowed to download, you should receive an email with a personalized code to unlock the software. These codes are generated based on your PIN, so there’s no way you could use someone else’s. Hope this helps.
        Good luck.

    17. Installed on my Bold 9650 last night & I am totally impressed!! :-)

      • Scroll 3 or 4 entries up in the page and you’ll see my post, explaining the process. As far as I’m aware, that’s the only way to get it.

      That’s a pain!
