PingChat Updated to v2.4 With Emoticons and More

PingChat Update

I am not sure if many of you remember PingChat but it is one of the few cross platform IM clients out there. Terrence let us know they have updated to v2.4 this week which adds quite a list of new features and fixes to the platform. I am not that well versed in all of these alternatives but I tried PingChat for a bit and it worked well. The thing I have with most of these apps is that they do not have a real differentiator.

Here are the updates in v2.4 of PingChat:

  • Emoticons are here!  Share them with your friends and have fun.
  • Typing and message status shows when your friends are writing you back, or sending you media.  No more guessing if they are answering.
  • Storm/Storm2 support added.  Better Torch support as well!
  • Added localizations for DE (German), ES (Spanish), FR (French), IT (Italian), and NL (Dutch).
  • Brand new attachment panel helps you send the message you want, faster and easier.
  • Send and receive Contacts and Map Locations.
  • New compose screen makes it easier and faster to send messages and group messages, no more remembering their id’s.
  • New media picker gets you sharing your pictures, videos, and audio faster then ever.
  • Clicking on the titlebar in a group conversation now opens up a list of the group members, quickly view their profile or go to a chat with them.
  • Added searchbar to the Facebook/Twitter/Address Book find friend screens so you can find who you want faster.
  • Faster loading of conversations with picture messages.
  • Bug fixes for Torch touch issues, unable to go into your profile when clicking the My Profile button from the main screen, password mismatch issues, and more.

You can pick up the updated v2.4 of PingChat in App World at this link if you have a compatible device. Alternatively if you just want to find a random BBM hookup check out the reviews for PingChat featuring amazing reviews like:

  1. Well, the wife just went iPhone from her Storm2. I don’t have unlimited SMS and we’ve been trying to use Yahoo Messenger to replace BBM but it’s awful on iPhone. Gonna have to check this out.

    • Hey Ronen…I just happened to be browsing about PingChat and when I go to the page for downloading the iPhone client I see:
      Customer Reviews:
      Love it

I’m straight I trade pics I’m looking to have some fun I’m 18 years old olny boys add me leslie2191
So I guess it’s not just App World that is spammed with “hookup reviews”… 😉

  2. I use BBM a lot but still have other friends/coworkers on other clients. Will give it a shot

  3. This is the IM client of choice between my friends and I. There are 7 of us that used to be in a BBM group of photographers.

4 moved to iPhone, one to Android. Initiating group chats on the BB end is a pain, but the other two platforms can easily start group chats.

I find, though, that Pingchat drains the battery. I’m not sure if RIM has allowed a full push or they just call it that. I know my iPhone friends rarely leave Pingchat on as it is constantly polling for new data, thus killing their battery.

  4. I had to remove this app because it drains the battery. It is a good app, but they need to improve the batery usage.
