Need for Speed is Awesome on the BlackBerry PlayBook

The last time I got a chance to play with a BlackBerry PlayBook was back at CES so I was excited to play the recently announced EA games last night. I obviously had to try Need for Speed on the PlayBook and I have to say I am impressed. The graphics are spot on and the game play is both fun and simple. I really hope RIM finds a way to have developers pump out many more games like this one. Check out what I mean in the short video below:

I tried taking a video while playing but ended up giving up and just took a video while Mac from PocketBerry played for my camera. 🙂 We had them showing off how the game would work if you have the settings set to pause apps and games when you switch to another app. Not as impressive but makes more functional sense!

Still I have to say I am looking forward to BlackBerry gaming after this. I know many of the Android games are made using their NDK (Native Development Kit) and that is exactly how these PlayBook apps were developed using the Tablet OS NDK based  on C/C++. That means we can hopefully look forward to some solid gaming on the PlayBook!

What game do you want to see brought to the PlayBook? My vote is for some sort of guitar hero or rock band like game…

  1. Haha, you guys were testing him lol

  2. Looking forward to April 10!!

  3. NFS looks so good! I would love to see a side or up-scrolling retro style shooter similar to Gradius or UN Squadron. The gaming will be sweet on this thing. Especially with the ability to output via the HDMI out.

  4. What, no video of Tetris? Yeah, that probably would have been pretty boring but a good test of pause/resume as I suspect far more folks will have tetris running in the background than NFS. Seems to me a much more conducive jump in/jump out type of game. I’ve caught myself with papped’s version in the background on my Storm for DAYS at a time!

  5. I’m wondering why I want to play NFS on a tablet? Maybe because I haven’t try it though. The graphics looks very promising though.
