When I first saw this app, I was not extremely impressed. I thought it was just another battery monitor. As I looked closer at the screenshots I realized that not only could this be a handy tool, but we could be seeing a good estimate of what we can expect for the battery life of the PlayBook!
According to these estimates, a fully charged PlayBook should be able to do the following:
- Standby – 300hrs 30 mins
- Web Browsing – 17 hours
- Music Playback – 34 hours
- Video Playback – 8 hours
- Gaming – 6 hours
If these numbers are accurate, I am more than satisfied. Need for Speed for 6 hours straight without charging? 4 movies? Not too shabby.
It does say in the app description that the times are estimates and results may vary, but that can be said about any battery monitor. I do realize that these numbers could be off due to the fact that a simulator was likely used to create this app but I’d like to think that as many details as possible are included in the simulator. Let’s just all agree to shake a little salt on this one.
Do you think the estimates are accurate? If they are, what do you think?

I believe it to be true because the Playbook battery is basically the same size as a laptop battery but the Playbook is a fraction of the size of a standard laptop.

Very interesting. I guess with a little more room they can squeeze a big battery in there. Sounds like more than enough for me.

Sounds great. It will be able handle a days worth of use with ease. I hope its true.

Most than likely thats screenshots from the simulator, so the numbers dont mean anything. Look at the devs other apps and when they were submitted, doesnt seem like RIM would be sending him a pre-release PB.

Ya, I figured the screenshots were from a simulator. Do you think the numbers are way off? Or could they be close?

The simulator doesn’t simulate the real battery properties so really its all a guess right now, have a look at the link in the first post: http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Tablet-OS-SDK-for-Adobe-AIR/Playbook-Device-Simulation-released/td-p/812371
To even simulate changing battery properties you have to use a work around, it’s not built into the simulator.

While I wouldn’t take these numbers to be completely accurate, I do think they are probably an approximation of what RIM hopes to get out of the PlayBook. Even if the numbers are a little high, I still think they are quite good.

I suspect these are not close to reality.
Too bad they can’t even spell “Assistant” right.

Ya that is kinda weird, if numbers are anywhere close to this Steve Jobs will be shitting himself.
