PlayBook App: Talk Clock

This could be an extremely popular app for the PlayBook. Talk Clock is a futuristic take on an alarm clock. It can be set to play music, or you can set it to play a soothing voice to wake you up AND inform you of the day’s weather forecast.  Sounds sweet right? I know I want it. Here is the description from App World:

Digital alarm clock. User can set format, color and alarm time. Alarm can select pre-defined music with the option to snooze  for a user defined period of time. The clock also displays a 7 day weather forecast making it easy to know what to wear when waking up. The perfect travel companion. The alarm also has the option to talk to you.

For example, instead of waking up to music (which is nice), you can wake up to a female voice saying “Good morning. Rise a shine. It is 7:00 AM. The weather today will be partly cloudy with a high of 65 degrees. Get up and get going”. The application comes with some predefined text, but the user can enter their own text and automatically insert current time and the day’s weather. Gotta hear to believe.

Sounds super cool to me. I especially like the option to enter custom text with the time and day’s weather inserted. I would definitely set it to call me Mr. Bond. 🙂

Talk Clock is available (for the not yet available PlayBook) in App World for $1.99. There is also a free trial option.

  1. This will be one of the first apps I buy for the playbook. That is just too neat! My wife may kill me though. 🙂

  2. Mr. Bond, Mr. President, Mr. Stark…. whoever I want to be that day, Sooo cool! Great post, although now I think I need to buy a playbook.

  3. Sounds pretty cool.

  4. why can’t they make this for os 6?

  5. Hmmm…how about some Scotty clips?

  6. I highly doubt it that i can speak whatever text you type. If it does it will probably be a text to speech robot like speech. there is nothing special about this app.

    • Actually, I wouldn’t be surprised if Talk Clock could recognize many common words. Its 2.5MB which is relatively large considering the other features.

Even if the voice is a little robot-like, I think its a pretty cool app. The description does not mention if there is more than one voice to choose from. It would be great if you had the option to download other voices as well. I know this is possible with certain standalone GPS units. Snoop Dawg has guided me safely to a few locations. 🙂

      • I would think it’d be kind of interesting to navigate with Snoop calling the turns – “Yo G, you best be making a right up in the hizzle”. And if you miss a turn, instead of “recalculating” you’d get “You blind or something!? You missed your damn turn”.

    • Don’t be a pessimist.

  7. I think my wife would like it IF it said HER name.

  8. This is like something we see in movies or cartoons set in the future 🙂 makes me think of the jetsons

  9. Sounds like a really cool app. Can’t wait for the PlayBook to come out to use it.

  10. I will buy this! Really cool idea 😀
