BlackBerry PlayBook Gets a Free Google Reader Client GeeReader

 192325

One of the things that BlackBerry smartphones are missing is a free solid RSS reader with desktop synchronization. BerryReader is pretty awesome but the price is high for most users and News Feeds from RIM is just a shameful rehash of Viigo. My big hope is that the BlackBerry PlayBook will fix this with an awesome Google Reader client using the new SDK’s. While you could simply use Google Reader in the PlayBook browser a client usually is more functional for RSS especially for offline caching.

Ryan Krull has answered that calling by releasing the first Google reader client I have seen for the PlayBook and its free! The app looks pretty sweet and kind of makes me wish we could get more of these kinds of apps for BlackBerry smartphones.

Check out GeeReader at this link in App World

Features include:

  • Sync directly with Google Reader. Use your Google account to login.
  • Star, Like, and Share feed items.
  • Mark all items in a feed as read.
  • Sort feed items by "Newest First" or "Oldest First".
  • View the article detail in a maximized window by tapping on the article detail panel title bar.

  1. I really like this.

  2. Yeah, I posted this in the forum. Definitely glad to see one developed.

  3. Can’t RIM just make Viigo work with their newer products? Does someone else really need to create a better news reader for Blackberry? News Feeds and Social Feeds just don’t cut it. Make use of that Viigo acquisition.

  4. I miss viigo on my torch, why kill one of my favorite apps

  5. I’ve been hesitant to get the Torch for just that reason – no Viigo.

  6. i don’t think i ever used it….

  7. BarracudaBob, Viigo now is working on OS6 devices.

I have it running on my 9700 with os6 and it runs fine.

It has been running since .4xx leaks.
