Quite a few readers let us know that the they were notified that BlackBerry Messenger 5.0.2.11 is now available in the Beta Zone. While most of us are waiting for a beta, leak, or official release of BlackBerry Messenger 6.0 its interesting to see RIM still improving the current version. If you login to Beta Zone and are part of that program you will immediately get the popup shown above with the following info:
New BlackBerry Messenger 5.0.2.11 software is available for you to download.
This is a standard maintenance release. You won’t see many new features in this build, but it does provide a few bug fixes:
- If you are running BlackBerry® 6.0, a cursor might not have appeared when you scrolled through previous messages in a chat.
- If you turned on content protection, when you received a new message, you might have seen a "Content protection is enabled" message.
- If a person invites you to become a contact during a multi-person chat with you, and if you accepted the request, the contact might not have appeared on your contact list.

I am surprised that RIM is still working on BBM 5.0. Is this because 6.0 will only work with devices running OS 6.0? Or is BBM 6.0 slated for all BB’s?

Is there a timeframe for bbm 6.0? Until then, I’m glad they keep working on the current version.

I hope BBM 6 is going to be released for OS 5 phones as well as the OS 6 phones. I’m not quite ready to upgrade until I see the new batch of phones coming out late this year.

I don’t see this program for BBM at all in my Beta Zone. Are only some eligible for this? I am on OS 6 9650

I got so excited until i tried to download it. RIM says on site –>”We are currently experiencing issues with the BlackBerry Messenger v5.0.2.11 software download.”

Yeah. They are having issues with the key codes. Unfortunately, I got it downloaded, but can’t use it. So hopefully today they will have it fixed.

By the time I went in, they had already pulled the download link. I hope they get things working soon.

Apparently it’s only available for people who have participated in previous BBM test program.
