Verizon PlayBook Without Limits Beta Program? What is it?

Verizon PlayBook without limits

A reader over at Skatter Tech spotted a interesting Verizon and BlackBerry beta program called Verizon / BlackBerry PlayBook Without Limits. We can all safely assume that Verizon will probably be carrying and selling the PlayBook but some are taking this as a sign that a 4G LTE PlayBook might be in the works. A LTE PlayBook will probably be coming after the Wi-Fi only versions but so far RIM has been pretty mute about it.

Registration for the beta program seems to have been for large enterprise customers at but is now closed. One of the things I did notice in the screenshot Skatter Tech took before it was taken down was that it CLEARLY states that the BlackBerry PlayBook will have GPS. It makes me wonder why RIM does not just put the GPS down in the PlayBook spec sheet… unless it really isn’t there.

  1. Could it be using the GPS from the blackberry device instead? (aka when bridging from Torch)

  2. Maybe they aren’t done testing the gps yet

  3. Maybe they just forgot to. In all of the excitement of all the other features, they just didn’t list it.

  4. I would think it’s from the bridging, but then again it clearly says GPS (hard to tell if there is an * or a number next to the word)
If you look at the bottom left it says: High-speed connection, (3rd line) 3G network access using your BlackBerry
And then the item right underneath talks about the amplified BlackBerry experience, again no mention of the GPS from the list of email, calendar, address book, task list and BBM
I’d have to say it clearly states an actual GPS built in…Am I right no?

  5. I wonder if the PB can bluetooth connect to a garmin or tomtom…..

  6. Bluetooth is definitely listed as one of the connection types so the PB will be able to connect to a standalone GPS or any other BT enabled device.

As for GPS, its hard to say either way but I bet it will built into the PB.

  7. Whatever it is, I hope that verizon will not charge an arm and a leg for it. Their service is good but verizon charges are just insane to be honest.

    • Verizon is generally within pennies of what AT&T charges for like plans. If one is going to accuse Verizon of “insane” pricing, it’s only fair to extend that to AT&T also.

  8. I’d sure like to see AT&T working on something related to the PB. All they seem to be doing is worrying about Verizon.

  9. I was informed “Please note this is an exclusive program for Verizon enterprise customers and participation is by invitation only.”

  10. OMG….. anticipation killing me…. Can this get any better?
