We just saw pictures of the BlackBerry PlayBook in portrait orientation last week. Now thanks to Chris Miller we have video of the PlayBook in that mode shown off by Paul Steel, Manager Technical Services, at Lotusphere 2011. Nothing ground breaking here but it gives you an idea of how the interface will look in this orientation.

Note about 6:50 though that he says “it is in a case because there are some things you cannot see”… that really has me wondering. Is his a development one that has a few ports we won’t see on ours. Or is it that his has expansion slots that will be in v2.0? Makes one wonder.

That statement got my attention as well. I will be upset if a sd slot is included in future models and not on the launch models. It was the one thing missing that I considered must-have.

Looks pretty slick. Others have noticed some of the apps (like the Weather one) stay in landscape. But hopefully those little bugs have been sorted out.

I noticed that too, but also I think that is just a beta issue and we won’t see that in commercial release

What I want to know is about connections and adapters for the mico-HDMI port. The presenter asked but we didn’t get a good answer. How can I take a playbook and hook it up to a standard conference room projector?

Seeing progress is good but honestly it doesn’t look anywhere near where I was thinking an OS ought to be this close to launch. There’s less than 2/3 of Q1 left by calendar, and if RIM meant their own fiscal calendar there’s even less time left to meet launch.
I guess as time goes on I’m getting less and less excited about PlayBook and more looking forward to Montana and Monaco…
