Leaked OS For the 9800

9800 BB6This is rather unusual, took months for 9800 users to see a new OS leak and today they get two. earlier today we saw OS and now N4BB has posted links for v6.0.0.450. This kind of makes me mad since I just got done upgrading mine a few hours ago.  You can download the update from the following links:

This OS will not install on any other BlackBerry besides the one mentioned above and is not an official release. If you do not know how to upgrade your BlackBerry OS please start by reading this step by step guide.Don’t forget to delete the vendor.xml file located in c:program files>common files>research in motion>apploader to install it on a different carriers device. Don’t forget our usual warnings: do not download and install these updates if you don’t know what you’re doing. Incorrect procedure or just bad luck could render your BlackBerry inoperative or unstable

  1. Lol,
Yeah I had to install .448 3 times because Shrink-A-OS broke something, so I had to install unshrunk.

    Then I saw this released… did I re-install again for that .002 upgrade? Yes… yes i did.

    Everything running smoothly so far.

  2. Have fun with it.

  3. Still om the fence about this

  4. There were some things that downgraded from 448 – BlackBerry Maps and Docs to Go both were flagged to downgrade.. Strange.

I moved the ALX files (and supporting files from the JAVA directory) for both into 450 and that fixed that.

Also added Japanese fonts (CJK.alx and supporting files from JAVA directory too, obviously).

Seems to be working well including UMA support and the whole machine seems pretty snappy.

Worth the effort, I would say.

  5. So with some 6.1 files out in the wild (BDHP 6.0 hybrid already has them) I think we’ll soon see if current phones like the torch will be upgradeable to 6.1 officially.

  6. Upgrade from 336 to 450 went smoothly. The OS feels much quicker and responsive. Best upgrade yet IMHO.

  7. Last time I used one of these leaked updates, things didn’t out so good for my torch.

    • Fortunately I think its quite unlikely you can permanetly brick your phone with an os upgrade. I think this one is worth the risk. Its a pretty good leap from 337

  8. So what is the word on this vs .448? I am still on official .246 and hate redoing all my app serials. Any pros/cons on each? Can’t seem to find a specific answer.

    • I think you’ll find the subtle improvements worth the hassle of a re-input of your application serials and the overall improvement in performance is also a great motivator.

BBSAK helps with a lot of the application backup but there’s still no solid workaround to a “complete” backup of application settings and serials – very frustrating I agree.

    • 448 had some new battery icon animations which for some reason disappeared in 450.

I’ve also seen some people say that 448 was more stable and performed better, but I haven’t had problems with 450. I had 448, but didn’t have it long enough to make a judgment either way.

  9. Why is this tagged 9800 and all the other posts have the tag 9800-torch?

  10. Thanks worked great~!
