Verizon Rolling Out OS 6.0 for Bold 9650 AND Curve 3G 9330 TODAY!

Software update

This was a long time in the works but RIM just let us know that the wait is over. BOTH the BlackBerry Curve 9330 3G AND the BlackBerry Bold 9650 will be getting OS 6.0 by 8PM EST today. The update is available for corporate users at the usual link you will find below but you also have the option to either do it OTA by going to Options>Advanced Options>Wireless Update from your device or just head to www.BlackBerry.com/updates from your PC with your BlackBerry connected.

Verizon has also posted details on the update at:

Corporate users can pick up the executable install files from vzw.smithmicro.com/blackberry/

  1. Silly Monkeys! We posted this over on GizmoFusion the other day.

But good day for those who wait for officials from the carriers. I’ve been running this since Saturday. It’s a very solid release. No reboots, fast snappy use. I’m very pleased.

  2. Never did understand why people wait for Official OSes.. at worst if a leaked OS isn’t good, you can always go back.

  3. For the 9650 is it 6.0.0.431?

  4. Lol. That wasn’t a hybrid that was released on Sunday. It was exactly what released yesterday.

  5. Does anyone know if the upgrade incorporates support for FLAC audio files on the 9650? Otherwise, I don’t see the point in the upgrade, to be honest. OS 6 has yet to impress me.

  6. FYI, for those of us running the “latest” prior release (i.e., OS v5.0.0.975), it apparently was not the latest. Big Red has been recently delivering 9650s with 5.0.0.1006 — the OTA updater does not recognize .975 as a valid predecessor so I was not offered the OS v6.0.0.431 update last night. This morning, the 5.0.0.1006 update was offered on the device (a “minor” 10 MB download). After the 5.0.0.1006 update installation completed successfully, the OS v6 update was available (after manually checking, of course) — I am in currentlythe download phase (85 MB!) of the update. Why go this route as opposed to installing via the Desktop Manager? Being on a BES, the OTA update process maintains the BES connection — a new Enterprise Activation following the update(s) does not appear to be necessary (, but we’ll wait and see). 😉

    • Thanks for that info! I had noticed my BES connection was intact after my last OTA OS 5x upgrade. Let us know if this remains true for the jump to OS 6.

      • It was true for for the “interim update” from OS v5.0.0.975 to v5.0.0.1006. I am in the middle of the update to OS v6 (i.e., data backup just completed) — I will let you know once it completes…

  7. I downloaded 6.0 onto my Bold 9650 and it crashed the phone. Verizon replaced the phone for me with a new 9650 which came with 6.0 preloaded and I am having nothing but trouble with it. I charge my phone overnight. In the morning I can turn it on and without using the phone at all, my battery will be down to 23% charge in less than three hours and the phone will be quite hot. There is a problem with 6.0. df
