I am not sure how many of you use Bing for BlackBerry but Barrist let us know that it has been updated today. The new version brings four new features to the table that give Bing some features Google does not offer. I actually downloaded it to check it out!

The new features include:

Homepage Hotspots: If you have a little time to spend and want to explore the day’s image, point around it until you find a hotspot. Hidden in the image, hotspots are intended intrigue and inform you. If you look, you’ll find four of them every day. Each gives you a chance to find out more about the subject of the image.

Flight Status Instant Answer: Never miss a flight again.  Simply enter your flight number and Bing for mobile will provide you with the status at a glance.

Bing Image Search – Find the perfect image while you’re on the go.  Bing Image Search provides you with gorgeously rendered images formatted for easy viewing on your phone.

“What’s Nearby” – Bing for Mobile has a smart experience for finding local listings like restaurants and attractions using your location to serve up “what’s nearby.”

The only sad thing about the update is that according to their announcement the new version is only available to the following devices:

  • BlackBerry® Bold™ 9000
  • BlackBerry® Torch™ 9800
  • BlackBerry® Curve 2 8520/8530
  • BlackBerry® Storm™ 9530
  • BlackBerry® Storm™ 9550 (Storm2)
  • BlackBerry® Tour™ 9630
  • BlackBerry® Bold™ 9650 (Essex)

If you device is on that list you can pick up the update at

  1. Well, it’s about time! I’m not the biggest Bing fan but I was pretty peeved that they didn’t support the Torch all this time. I’ll have to give it a whirl.

  2. Boo! Bing sucks! Hiss hiss 😛

Ok seriously, Google rocks. Nice to see some competition as long as Google’s BB apps gets newer features soon.

  3. A) Bing is forced onto my phone (VZW) and I have to work around it because it sucks terribly bad. If it could get maybe half the search results to return what I’m looking for and maybe actually display a phone number I can launch the dialer from when I search for a place it might not suck so bad. Funny how Google manages to do precisely these things.

    B) I have a 9650 but who knows if I have a 9650 (Essex)? I might consider this update if it made the mandatory search function for the BB browser not suck so bad that I automatically navigate to the page to perform a search.

  4. Not available in Canada

  5. According to the website, the torch isn’t supported yet.

  6. Pretty curious no 9700 or 9780 support yet all other Bold models are supported.
