RIM Promotes “Virtual PlayBook” With Flashback Facebook App

PlayBook Ronen's life

RIM’s social team released a new Facebook app called the “Virtual PlayBook.” It sort of takes you on a flashback tour of 2010 as seen through your Facebook profile. At first I was kind of hesitant to allow the app access to my profile but I took the plunge. Turns out the app did not like the fact that I do not share enough of my personal life on my Facebook account. Instead the app decided to mix some of my personal data with dummy data to round out the experience.

Check out the app on Facebook at this link and let me know what you think. Thanks to everybody who sent this one in!

  1. I noticed if you click on the top corner the link to “Get Exclusive Updates” it says: Get on the List … to get inside access to Exclusive Blackberry Playbook Features. I wonder what that’s about. I’m tentative about adding myself to these mailing lists, but what the heck, I’ll give it a shot.

On the App itself, they should have added a little dig in there to Apple re flash support–“Can’t be viewed on your iPad” :)

  2. hmm.. i havent tried it yet.. lol

  3. That’s interesting. I will have o check that out. Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! :)

  4. Very interesting every time to see what RIM and the Facebook team decides to release and why they think we need it. And by interesting, I mean dumbfounded. lol

  5. Seems pointess…..

  6. Hey Alex. I think RIM would have a hit Facebook app if they added native facebook chat. Its based on the same Jabber protocol as Gtalk so it should not be a big deal…

  7. Hi Ronen – Alex from RIM here.

I’m glad you tried the new “Your Life on PlayBook” Facebook app. We think a personalized, sneak peek at the BlackBerry PlayBook’s user interface will help give people a true sense of how the PlayBook will work.

Barrist: Thanks for the comment, and for signing up for exclusive updates. You’ll be among the first to know the next time a new app like this is launched. In the meantime, stay tuned to our Inside BlackBerry Blog for the latest on the BlackBerry PlayBook.

We’re curious to know, what does everyone else think about the new Facebook app?

    Alex from RIM.
