Tutorial on how to Build a Flex PlayBook App in 90 Minutes

We mentioned Christophe Coenraets and his demos of fast Flex PlayBook development before. Coenraets is a Adobe Technical Evangelist (whatever that means) and has posted a tutorial on how to build a BlackBerry PlayBook app using Flex in 90 minutes on the RIM forums. He teaches you how to build a “simple, yet fully functional employee directory application” for the BlackBerry PlayBook.

The demo app lets you:

  • Search for employees
  • View employee details
  • Navigate up and down the org chart
  • Call, text, and email employees

You can check out the tutorial at this link on RIM’s website. Let us know if it works for you!

  1. Notice the use of Android icons in the sample app 😉

  2. hah neat..

  3. Naise…!

  4. I will have to check it out when I get home! :)

  5. It uses android images because it is an android sample. He even left android permissions in the app descriptor xml.

    • I guess that shows TWO things then: building a Flex app is pretty dimple AND Flex can easily build apps for Android and PlayBook. That bodes well for devs who want to build for multiple platforms but have left BlackBerry behind until now. The problem though is unless this can also build for BlackBerry 6.1, will the devices that launch this year have enough apps to keep users on the BlackBerry platform long enough for QNX smartphones to launch in a year?

  6. When I get to Mobile Setting –> there is no Target Platform labeled Blackberry Tablet.

    What’s the problem?

    I’m running Windows 7; Is there a problem with permissions;

    There is a directory (within the Burrito directory) entitled “Blackberry Tablet OS SDK 0.9.1 …”
