BlackBerry Storm 3 Gets Detailed with More Pictures and 1.2Ghz Processor!

 BlackBerry-Storm-3 BlackBerry-Storm-31

We just heard rumors about the BlackBerry Storm 3 heading to production and now we have more details thanks to BGR. They have managed to score a detailed feature list for the device that includes a sweet 800×480 3.7 inch display. The renderings look exactly like the picture of the Storm 3 we leaked awhile back which is promising. This Storm series device might finally bring the Storm back to life and give it some spunk with a 1.2Ghz processor along with both quad band GSM and tri-band UMTS/HSPA. No word on CDMA radios which is odd but they said it might come in 2-3 variants which may include a CDMA model.

The device also includes a 3G mobile hotspot along with HD video recording though it is only sporting a 1230mAh battery which is odd. Check out the full leaked feature list below:

  • 1.2GHz processor
  • 3.7-inch 800 x 480 capacitive display
  • Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE
  • Tri-band UMTS/HSPA
  • 5-megapixel camera with 720p video recording
  • 8GB eMMC (storage for apps and data), 512MB of RAM
  • microSD slot
  • Magnetometer
  • Proximity sensor
  • Accelerometer
  • Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
  • 2.4GHz b/g/n and 5GHz a/n Wi-Fi + UMA
  • 3G Mobile hotspot
  • Optical trackpad
  • 1230 mAh battery
  • BlackBerry OS 6.1
  • OpenGL ES 2.0

The release is rumored to be sometime in September so it looks like we have a great holiday season to look forward to. Now if only RIM could get these devices out the door soon… 🙂 The prevalent 3G Mobile hotspot in these latest devices is really going to be great for the PlayBook. I cannot wait.

  1. Hopefully this comes to market sooner to compete with the new iphone. Looks like there won’t be a slide out keyboard that was rumored, which is good. This falls in line with the rumor of the Storm 3. I believe the Storm 4 will have the QNX OS. Looks like this will be the year of the Blackberry!

    • Agreed. I think the reason why these phones weren’t uncovered at CES is because they didn’t want to constantly answer questions about why they don’t have the QNX OS on them.. These phones will make the current Blackberry user hesitate in switching. And then the QNX phones will try to grab some of the market back from Apple and Google.

  2. No surepress

  3. So Q3 for new torch and storm?

    I hope Dakota is sooner!

  4. Looks like RIM is finally starting to wake up from their slumber. I’m praying this comes to T-Mobile.

  5. Meh, anything named Storm from RIM is going to automatically be met with skepticism by the consumer base. It’s largely because the last 2 have been pieces o’ chit. They should give it a new name and (I pray) it’ll be leaps and bounds better than its predecessors.

  6. Not until Sept? AARRRGGGGHHHHHH!

    from my BlackBerry Storm…

  7. Looking at the OpenGL being added, seeing 3d games on a blackberry is going to be weird hah

  8. I wonder what phone carrier will get it.

  9. This could be the phone that gets me away from a physical keyboard. After my brief time with the original Storm, I never thought I would use a touch-only phone again! But this one sounds too good to pass up!

  10. Monaco sounds good, elegant. Keep that, drop Storm.

  11. September launch is far too late for such a device. This is needed in two months, not eight. With those specs, it won’t be at the top with what is coming down from Apple and Android vendors. These specs are adequate for today but 1 GB RAM will be needed as well as front facing cam for use with the new video-chat enabled BBM 😉

From the lackluster feedback to this post, I am seeing that many folks are simply getting fed up of waiting for RIM. How could they just ignore the power users for sooo long?!? Yes the PlayBook is fantastic, but there is still no phone device to move to once my contract ends in March. What do I get then? I can’t afford to wait as I’ve been holding on to a Storm for 3 years!

If I have to wait till September for a Storm 3, I might as well wait a few months later for the Storm 4 powered by QNX!!!

  12. I LOVE the Storm branding!!! RIM, don’t change it. If RIM releases a strong product it will correct the errors of the past and establish the branding. Like Bold, Storm invokes confidence, certainty, and radical power.

I love SurePress, but I will relunctantly give it up since the majority don’t like it… Only because I want the next Storm to succeed! I just despise accidentally selecting something I didn’t mean to and constantly having to go back. I absolutely hate it, but I’ll swallow it because of the majority of people who complain about SurePress. I always thought RIM was about choice so I hoped it would survive. After all, there are many other non-SurePress devices to choose from.

  13. This will be a nice improvement.

  14. I see and feel a huge improvement over the S1 with the S2. I always have over a 100Mb memory with the 2 and twice as many apps loaded, plus all the data docs are still there. I do not like the clickity click sound the keyboard makes. My wife hears it and knows I am on my BB.

  15. Too long a wait. My 9650 is needs a new set of wheels
