RIM Launches BlackBerry PlayBook WebWorks SDK at DevCon Asia

tablet_image_v1_1

We I guess we now know what “Very very early in the next year” meant when RIM said that about the WebWorks SDK for the PlayBook. They have just released the new web based development Tablet SDK for the BlackBerry PlayBook. The cool part about these apps is that they will be easily portable from the PlayBook to BlackBerry smartphones. On the other hand RIM has yet to allow developers to create smartphone WebWorks apps that start at boot so they have yet to buy into the whole WebWorks concept themselves. Hopefully WebWorks for the Tablet SDK is less of a half-@$$ed job.

You can download the new WebWorks SDK for the BlackBerry Tablet OS at:
www.blackberry.com/developers/tabletos/webworks.

RIM will also have a webcast starting on February 1st about the WebWorks on PlayBook. You can learn more about it at:
www.blackberry.com/developers/tabletos/webworkswebcasts

I guess I can now get cracking on a WebWorks app for BerryReview :). I already did one for BlackBerry smartphones but the current BlackBerry 6 WebKit browser chokes on JavaScript locally.
