Texas Instruments 1Ghz OMAP 4430 Processor Confirmed in BlackBerry PlayBook

Screen shot 2011-01-09 at 5.13.32 PM

We have heard quite a bit about the BlackBerry PlayBooks dual 1Ghz processor but until now we were wondering what processor it was exactly. The team at Engadget managed to get a RIM rep on the floor to confirm that it is running the cutting edge Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 1Ghz dual core processor. The thing I did notice is that TI already has a successor to the 4430 in the 4440 which can go as high as 1.5Ghz in both of its cores and doubles the 1080p, web page, and graphics performance over the 4430. On the other hand I don’t want to know what the battery life would be in that case.

  1. Battery life is very important to me on the PlayBook. I’m willing to sacrifice some speed for longer battery life.

  2. they can put the 4440 in the playbook 2 :).

right now with the 4430 RIM is targeting 8 hours of battery life!

  3. Can we have ti 4440 please. Tia

  4. Damn and I thought I was the only greedy one who wanted a 1.5ghz one months before the 1.0 ghz one is released 😛

  5. Which is considered faster, the TI or the Tegra?

  6. Made me so happy when I read about this. I was thinking about the tegra2 tablets etc that are coming out. I am glad that RIM still has one of the best chips out there.

  7. how will the 3d performance compare with the tegra?
