BlackBerry PlayBook Delayed Due to Battery Problems?

ScreenHunter_01 Dec. 28 22.18Yesterday the BlackBerry PlayBook was making the rounds on the net but not for good reasons. According to Kaufman Brothers analyst Shaw Wu the PlayBook may be delayed until the end Q1 or even later because of battery issues. The current tablets out in the market have decent battery life, and that would be a deal breaker for some specially because most BlackBerry users get a decent battery life on their BlackBerry.  This can be taken as rumors but the Kaufman Brothers is a reputable company so there could be some truth to the rumor. I know many of us are anxious to get our hands on the device so hopefully will learn more about this in the coming weeks.  CES is just around the corner, we expect RIM will show case the device there and give us some better news.

  1. I say better to delay then to release with Issues.

    • Agreed.

But, qnx wasn’t even meant for mobile devices till late. It was to run on routers and etc which have a stable power source already.

So I suppose there is lots of clean up to do

      • Good point, who knows how they are going to fix it. The QNX team said the software was design to work on low power usage so it could be something else.

        • Something else like the Bold 9000?
I’ll never forget the claims that were made, if the Wifi was active, the phone would last 2 hours only. That thing got delayed from May to November and….they never had a proper firmware till January of next year with the .216 version of OS 4.6
I hope, this isn’t one of them dilemmas…

  2. From a financial perspective, I think it’s good timing. Allows people to recover from holiday expenses and for the USA, it’s around the time for most people to receive their tax refunds.

  3. I wonder how much it will cost. I hope it runs around the price of the Asus EEE tablet..

  4. Bummer, I was so excited to get one soon.

  5. My thought is this is just another example of an analyst talking about something with no facts to back them up.

And let’s hope RIM has PlayBook’s out in force at CES and REAL people get some REAL hands on.

Personally, I think Super Bowl is the perfect time to launch it. No event gets more ad exposure than the Super Bowl, and Black Eyed Peas are the halftime show and we KNOW they are big BlackBerry promoters. How cool would it be for BEP to be on stage during the halftime show, using PlayBook’s to synth some music?

  6. pfft, analysts. probably heard a rumour of a rumour from some random
