When I first opened the new BlackBerry News Feeds Beta I was hoping there was going to be a way to get my Viigo subscriptions into News Feeds without adding them all manually. While there is now splash screen setup RIM was kind enough to offer this functionality. Stranjal7 pointed out in the comments that all you need to do is:
- Open BlackBerry News Feeds Beta
- Go to Add Feeds
- Hit the BlackBerry button and select Import Viigo Subscriptions
- Enter in your Viigo username and password
- Check the box next to any subscription you wish to Import from your Viigo account
That’s it! It is really nice of RIM to include this functionality in the app. Kudos to the News Feeds team for making it possible to easily migrate to the new app. Now if we could only get two way Google Reader sync… Then we would have a killer RSS app. Anybody else glad RIM did not let Viigo die?

I prefer using the browser to manage all my feeds. Its more convenient since the ‘read’ status of all stories is synchronized across all devices.
As browser gets better, I would expect all content specific apps to become web apps. ‘Youtube’ is the perfect example of this. The ‘Youtube’ mobile website is better than the native apps across all platforms (including iphone) with more features and ease of use.
I’d have preferred if this were a web app.

The downside is that web apps use more data. Native apps can store most of the images and UI locally.

Thanks, Ronen et al. I’ll check it out. This is why I keep coming back to visit you guys! Great stuff as I wouldn’t want to re-enter all my feeds!

what’s the difference between this and the RSS reader in Social Feeds aside from the access to Viigo accounts? Is it more robust? If so, how?
I know I could just install the app but I just want to determine if there as a reason to give it a go since I consider the RSS reader in Social Feeds to be pretty basic.
Thanks.

OK, got it. Of course, that begs the question, why a separate app? Why not just add/enhance Social Feeds?
Oh well, I am going to give it a try.

That is a very good question. This is just a better Social Feeds. Maybe to remove the OS 6 restriction.

I bet a LOT of people don’t remember their Viigo username and password, having moved on to BerryReader or other more modern RSS apps since Viigo has been dying on the vine for a LONG time now.
