RIM Acquires Expert UI Company – The Astonishing Tribe (TAT)

Tat logo RIM is rolling out the acquisitions with plans pointing to an awesome user interface for their upcoming QNX OS. They just announced on their Blog that The Astonishing Tribe (TAT) team will be joining RIM and focus their talent on BlackBerry PlayBook and smartphone platforms.

I had never heard of TAT before so here is what David Yach, CTO at RIM, had to say about them:

For those who don’t know, TAT is renowned for their innovative mobile user interface (UI) designs and has a long history of working with mobile and embedded technology. TAT focuses on delivering great user experiences, from a design, technology, and usability perspective. Their design technology is used today in a variety of industries including the consumer electronics and automotive sectors. Examples of TAT’s UI designs and concepts can be viewed on their web site at

If you want to have some fun dreaming look at the beautiful UI work the TAT team has done in the past at Their website is currently getting hammered but it should probably be up soon. Welcome to the club TAT and we hope you blow our minds with the upcoming BlackBerry UI.

  1. I wondering if what we’ve seen already has some TAT influence, and only now they’ve decided to do the buy? What we’ve seen of the PlayBook UI is pretty different than you’re run of the mill BlackBerry.

    • QNX – military grade security, TAT the most advanced touch screen technology. Look out Android and iOS, RIM might not just be back in the game, but going for the gold!
