Now that Distimo is offering developers their Distimo Monitor App World analytics tool for free they probably have better data on App World rankings. They just released their report on App World rankings for September 2010 and once again the numbers are not surprising.
- RIM still eats/pushes their own dog food with five of the top ten free apps developed by RIM
- BlackBerry App World is the top free app in App World… (I don’t even know what to say about that one)
- Pandora is outdoing Facebook and Twitter which is impressive
- A Flashlight application was the top paid app!!! (READ THIS)
- MemoryBooster only made it to 9th place this month
What do you think of the rankings in this report?

Eating your own dogfood is an expression when a company promotes the use of their own products:

Hopefully the new tools given to developers for OS6 and QNX will see the RIM made apps fall off. There are so many apps that could way out do what they come up with.
Side note..Yeah the memory/flashlight apps are sad. Only one I use is PowerBOSS. But that’s because it tells me how much time I can do certain things before my battery dies. So that is, at least useful!

There have been some updates of BB App World. Perhaps the analyses also tracks the updates as “downloads”? In that case, anybody who uses BB App World will have downloaded it either because the app was updated or because the app wasn’t installed on the BB in the first place. That’s why BB App world will be the top download until RIM stops updating it.
Similarly for some other RIM build apps, RIM updates them perhaps more often than other developers update their app. ANybody who has downloaded the app through app world will then receive an indication that an update is ready for download.

Yeah I know but does RIM really need to have App World as the top app in App World. At least remove it from the Top 10 list.

I’m surprised there are 4 games in that top paid-apps list. And who says the BB isn’t used for gaming?

These lists of top apps would be entirely different if RIM put more RAM in devices! At least allow users to install apps to device memory!!! I can no longer download any apps and even getting app updates is pointless as many upgrades/updates are larger in size. Imagine if RIM were to fix these two issues how fast AppWorld would grow!
With 512MB in the new devices, that should help but there is still a fundamental problem that persists. We can’t continue to install apps in RAM.
