More BlackBerry Storm2 9570 Refresh Cancelation Rumors

9570It was less than a month ago when we got confirmation of a BlackBerry Storm 9570 was running out in the wild with Wi-FI, BlackBerry 6, Mobile Hotspot, 5MP Camera, SureType, and 512MB of RAM. We then heard last week that the device may have been axed by Verizon and will never be released.

The team at BBLeaks just stoked that fire by publishing some information that one of their sources passed along:

Thank you for your hard work and diligence in preparing your application to support the upcoming hardware refresh of the BlackBerry Storm2 smartphone (model number 9570, codename R027). Regrettably, RIM has decided not to pursue this device further and has ended the program.

However, rest assured that you will have the opportunity to leverage the work you’ve put in thus far in preparing for the new OS, as BlackBerry 6 will be making its way to more Verizon products in the near future, including the BlackBerry Bold 9650 and the BlackBerry Curve 9330

So it looks like the BlackBerry Storm2 refresh will never come to Verizon which is not terrible but Verizon customers are going to be annoyed not having a touchscreen BlackBerry 6 device. Maybe RIM will reconsider and release BlackBerry 6 for the original Storm2.

Either way signs are pointing to the fact that the device we leaked a few weeks back might be the future touchscreen only Storm replacement:

  1. Send it to Sprint! We’d love a touch screen device! My experience with Sprint has been great, even after 7 years.

  2. Have a feeling they’re gonna go with the Torch form factor instead.

Maybe a non-surepress touchscreen only as well, who knows. Surepress is too polar, which makes it risky…

  3. Me = bummed
Time to find a 9550 cheap (I need more RAM and wifi) and hold out for a REAL Storm3.
