BlackBerry Torch 9800 OS Update offers “Overall System Performance Improvements”

I appreciate “overall system performance improvement” claims for my BlackBerry as long as they are not the result of “memory boosters.” RIM let us know that the latest official OS update to v6.0.0.246 brings system performance updates all around. That means if you have a tour – UPGRADE NOW. If you know somebody with a Torch – share the good news and help them update.

BlackBerry Torch FastThe improvements include:

  • Browser – faster page loading and improved panning
  • User input – handled more efficiently, improved responsiveness after unlocking device
  • Applications – faster launching, exiting and switching
  • Home Screen – faster rendering and smoother transitions when switching between panes
  • Media – faster rendering of thumbnails in picture application
  • Email/Messaging – faster and smoother scrolling in message list and when reading email
  • Voice- Software improvements for improved audio quality

You should be able to find the OS updates at one of these two links.

  1. Imo, important tip for AT&T is to uncheck the “enable apn settings” box in TCP/IP settings.

Data connection is a lot faster and more reliable for me after doing so.

  2. Also… it’s torch… not tour. ;)

  3. Sorry for the mix up. Been helping a bunch of friends upgrade bolds today and telling others that their tour is not getting BlackBerry 6. Confusing…

  4. This is why the Torch was delayed launching in Canada – OS 6.0.0.246 is the official OS from Rogers when it was released. :)

  5. Weird. My 246 feels so buggy. When browsing, sometimes it will hang and when I do a battery pull, my homescreen gets reset.. (Folders and icons location)

  6. Hi, newbe Question, on the Torch update is it carrier/ISP related? as i am currently using my Torch over sea’s with the local carrier sim card. (Wataniya Telecom, Kuwait)
