CrunchSMS v2.17 Now Supports BlackBerry 6

CrunchSMS Right after we mentioned that BuzzMe has included support for CrunchSMS dbltap let us know that CrunchSMS has also been updated for BlackBerry 6. In case you don’t know CrunchSMS is a popular BlackBerry app that gives you chat style bubble SMS conversations similar to what you see on the iPhone. It is not a huge difference from the bubbles RIM already provides in BlackBerry 6 but it adds some other nice features.

The CrunchSMS app also breaks up messages in 160 character chunks for CDMA networks which is nice. It also includes the ability to support contact pictures along with smileys and signatures.

CrunchSMS is actually a free app but there is a “Self-ad banner” blocking a portion of the screen that you have to pay $4.99 to unlock if you want. You don’t lose any features but that banner can get a bit annoying…

You can pick up the 2.17 update of CrunchSMS directly at this link. Usually you would also be able to pick it up in App World but it has not been updated there yet.

  1. I recently found CrunchSMS myself. I just wish it could handle MMS. I like receiving both SMS and MMS in one folder, but since it can’t handle it, you still have to have the MMS folder and CrunchSMS.

Like the app, just not that one issue.

  2. I like CrunchSMS wuth a caveat. Just like the 3rd party browsers it can’t replace the native SMS integration. So for example you see a phone number and click to send a SMS and your send goes out via the native app, but a reply comes in to Crunch. If that doesn’t drive you nuts you’ll probably like this app.

In my $5 is way too much for what this does. I suspect that holds a lot of people back from buying a “one trick pony” app. Hopefully now that App World allows, they will drop the price way down.
