You have to love patents in the US. Apple was recently awarded some patents that they applied for over 3 years ago when the first device launched. They applied for a patent to show the popup keys when you are typing on a virtual touchscreen keyboard and another patent for the glowing slide to unlock bar that iPhones are known for. Check out the patents at this link and this link.
While the Torch does not have a slide to unlock feature it does have a pop up keyboard… Maybe RIM has another lawsuit in their future? Or are all these patents just intimidation tactics between companies.

But….I’m sure RIM has a bunch of patents that Apple is probably using. A lot of tech companies let other tech companies “squat” on their patents.
So if Apple goes after RIM over this I’m sure RIM can fire back at Apple…so they’ll leave each other alone.
