Sccope let us know about their new app that lets you compare prices on the go. I am not sure how they are going to get users to fork over $2.99 (App World link) for a price comparison app but who knows. The app is designed to let consumers easily compare prices at retailers like Best Buy, Amazon, & Walmart and wants you to find the best prices across the board.
There are 3 ways to compare prices in the app:
- Scan with the built-in barcode reader (uses your BlackBerry® camera)
- Search by product code, name or brand
- Browse from a wide range of product categories
The app displays live coupons right next to the products you are browsing so you might even save more than you think. Other features let you get price alerts when things drop and stock alerts for when things come back in stock. The app also gives you a wish list and the ability to share deals with friends.
I wish Sccope luck but in my opinion such an app would be better served as a free app monetized with advertisements or kick backs from retailers when you use a coupon. Most users who would be willing to shop around are not the ones that are going to pay $2.99 for Sccope. What do you think?
