Andreas let us know that RIM has put their BlackBerry Traffic beta app in the App World Test Center though it is limited to the US and Canada. I tried downloading it on a BlackBerry Torch and it says it is not available for my device even though the web store shows that it is open to all devices…
Another odd thing is that this version seems to be newer than the one in the BlackBerry Beta program… I guess RIM is still trying to figure out how beta programs work.
So if you want to try out the BlackBerry Traffic beta app just head on over to this link in App World. Just keep in mind that it is US and Canada only for now and you might be out of luck if you have a BlackBerry Torch.

It’s not available for the 8330m on Sprint either. So much for “all devices” and “all carriers”.

RIM is still trying to figure out how beta programs work – and that is absolutely right…the same thing happened with BBM beta. the beta version was 5.x.0 and all of a sudden 5.x.38 was out for public and the beta testers did not even get notified about the updated release!

The beta version has that keycode lock thing, the app world version removes it.

A ton of apps got updated in 6.0 past their beta versions as well. (Appworld, various im clients I believe).

The reason the version is different than the one in beta zone is because the one in App world doesn’t require a key code. pretty simple. RIM has beta programs figured out just fine. Beta zone will get an updated program in the coming weeks

i understand that…but what i’d like is for them to notify the beta testers when there is a new version available in beta zone or else where.

Works on my Sprint 9650 but will wait until my drive home from work to do a real test.

Man this app works well. Used a few times yesterday and today and even though it doesn’t let me choose the route I will use, when I deviate from it’s planned path it recalculates very quickly. I just wish it had a map build it, or would add LEFT or RIGHT to all the street names it lists.

You need blackberry maps installed to use this. Otherwise it will give a lbs api error (if you removed it from the OS).

Doesn’t work on Telus 8130 either. Can’t find it in app world on device; and sending the link just results in the default app world start page.
This is the second “all devices, all carriers” app I’ve tried to install in the last week that didn’t work. I know the phone is old, but if they’re setting restrictions in the back-end; publish them to the front-end.

Seems to work on both my Storm and my Tour. Though why for the life of me RIM doesn’t just build this functionality directly into BlackBerry Maps baffles me. Google Maps for BlackBerry does this sort of thing, why do I need two apps from RIM for one feature?
