No Verizon LTE Smartphones before Christmas

verizon-wireless-logo Well that seals the question many people were asking on how fast Verizon was rolling out LTE. It seems like it will only be for data cards at first with smartphones ramping in during 2011. There were a couple of other things mentioned by Verizon Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer John Killian at the Oppenheimer Annual Technology, Media, & Telecommunications Conference:

  • They are in the middle of their 4G rollout
  • Commercial availability is in 4th quarter of this year
  • 20% of customers have a smartphone
  • They think they “have the ability to charge premium prices for higher speeds”
  • Speeds will be 8-10 times what they currently have
  • No smartphones before Christmas though they will be in the first quarter of 2011
  • Tablet news coming in the not so distant future

Now if we only knew when RIM was going to start rolling out an LTE BlackBerry and maybe even a Tablet. I am excited to finally get speeds faster than 1mbps.

  1. No new Blackberries before Christmas! Ahhhhhhh! How about a Torch or a Storm 3? C’mon VZW!

  2. That’s not what they said dilbert. They said no LTE smartphones, not no smartphones. I suspect we will see at least the 9130/9150 and 9330/9350 (whatever number scheme the decide on), and perhaps even the 9670 (now that the simulator and the OS have leaked).
