It seems like there is going to be some strong competition in the mobile payment space. With credit card companies finally getting on board with tap-and-pay technologies it looks like wireless carriers want to get in on the fun.
Bloomberg is reporting that AT&T, Verizon, & T-Mobile have teamed up to test out their own Near Field Communication payment technology in Atlanta and other locations. They are working with Discover Financial and Barclays to roll out the solution which would require new readers for merchants and built in chips in phones.
What do you think of these mobile payment systems? Personally I just saw one of my friends glue the NFC chip from his credit card to the back of his BlackBerry. Even RIM was testing out such a solution with MasterCard. Poof he has tap-to-pay tech built in.
