The BlackBerry Bold 9780 is getting some nice facetime recently. It was first caught on camera and spotted in a UAProf document last week. Now we have some more pictures courtesy of Driphter for us all to check out. The only real change in the hardware from the original 9700 is a bump to 512mb of memory. Other than that it seems to be just a bump to get it ready for BlackBerry 6.
The interesting thing to note is that the BlackBerry 6 OS is taking up about 206mb out of the 512 available since there are 306mb free. That means that it could theoretically work on the original 9700 and other 256mb devices but it might be a stretch. Hopefully RIM figures a way to make it happen or users might be really peeved to see yet another device get a hardware revision and a new OS.
What do you think?

Forgot to add: a decent camera, memory and speed (processor)! And video calls….

I would take the 206MB used with a grain of salt in these screen shots. The videos we’ve seen have had much missing functionality, which once added will likely increase that number a lot.
I think people hoping for BlackBerry 6 on a 256MB device, or the talks of webkit browser on OS 5, are both pipe dreams.

I hope you are wrong lol theres going to be some mad BB users. One thing to take into account so far what we have seen is touch screen versions and a short version of the one on the 9670. But the touch screen do require more memory usage.

It’s getting so that my Verizon New Every 2 can’t catch up. It was only two years ago that I finally moved from my Blackberry 8703 through two devices just to leapfrog to 4.3/4.5 and then to 4.7/5.0. Now I read my 9550 (less than 8 months old!) is end-of-life and that it likely won’t be able to support 6.0 anyway. I understand about continuous improvement and marketing strategies to sell as many devices as possible, but until Verizon does New Every 1, this is getting maddening. =|
As much as I would like to think I can squeeze OS6 on the 9550, 50 mb remaining isn’t going to cut it.
