Another BlackBerry OS 6 Sneak Peak Video – Coming This SUMMER!

RIM is really stoking the fire with their latest sneak peak video into the features of BlackBerry (OS) 6. One nice news bite that was mentioned on RIM’s official blog is that BlackBerry 6 is still on track for release this summer!!!!! The new interface is slick and it looks like RIM is finally taking a look at their UI design.

The new video above shows off the:

  • redesigned home screen
  • universal search
  • context-sensitive pop-up menus
  • revamped BlackBerry Browser powered by WebKit
  • new applications like Social Feeds (which integrates all your news and social networks into one destination) and more

Personally I cannot wait for the built in RSS feeds! How about you?

  1. Some interesting things I noticed about the “time-sensitive” content that appears in the video:
    — When scrolling through the RSS feeds, the CBC headlines seem to be from June 29, and the NY Times from July, although the date at the top reads May 21.
The article that is on the NY Times page at the end about salsa is from Mar 16

  2. Wow you really are good at spotting that stuff!

  3. The os 6 looks like it was specifically made for the storm and storm 2, which would suck considering I bought my 9700 in December 🙁

  4. OS 6 looks to be promising… however it’s success or usage pattern or user acceptability would depend more on the touch screen ability and on the hardware of the new device. RIM is notorious for using archaic processors and not so slick displays specially when we have AMOLED and Retina displays roaring loud..

The other issues which RIM should perhaps fix in their OS is their application installation and run time architecture.. Generally all apps in BB devices reside in the RAM due to which if you have multiple apps running it would slow down the device. Either RIM should increase the RAM or separate the onboard memory from RAM. Micro SD cards could still be used for external storage.

And yeah… OS 6 may have a different flavor for non touch devices.
