We mentioned before that Borders was working with Kobo (formerly ShortCovers) to provide eBooks and mobile apps. RIM even came out and promoted the Kobo app. It looks like Borders has now teamed up with Kobo to create a Borders branded version of their app powered by Kobo’s service. They are trying to play the added value card by offering its Borders Rewards loyalty program benefits including gift cards and free shipping to their 36 million Rewards members.
Borders is pushing hard into the eBook market after a late start. They plan on launching new Area-e sections in their store to demo products and answer customers questions about eBooks. Also between July 9-11, anyone who downloads the free Borders app will get 5 free top-selling books, including Frankenstein by Dean Koontz, One Shot by Lee Child, The Alchemyst by Michael Scott, Julia Child’s Kitchen Wisdom and Master your Metabolism by Jillian Michaels.
