I am not sure when exactly this happened but RIM really snuck this one in. We saw that RIM published the documentation for BIS 3.1 but we did not hear much from the rumor mill about its rollout. Thomas pointed out to me that Yahoo email accounts connected to the BlackBerry BIS service now have the option for wireless contact sync which will synchronize your Yahoo address book wirelessly with your BlackBerry.
This Yahoo contact sync was one of the main features in the BIS 3.1 upgrade so its great to see it live. If we truly are on BIS 3.1 it should also sync contacts with Alt-N MDaemon v11 over SyncML. It should also have an improved change device update but I don’t have a device I need to change into to try it out on.
Let us know if you try using the contact sync for Yahoo and if it works for you!

I was having a problem with my yahoo mail last week. I removed and readded the account and noticed contact sync then. It only syncs from yahoo to the BB, so existing BB contacts didn’t make it to my yahoo account.

I made a backup of my Yahoo contacts to a csv and then deleted them all.
Set contact sync on the BB and now all my 145 contacts are back in Yahoo, so yes it does sync two ways.
It’s workin on VIVO Brasil, must have been a worldwide update!

Ronen,
Thanks for the publication.
I can tell you we in Israel noticed that like 2 weeks ago, and yes…this was done quietly w/o any notification from any of our network providers.
The new interface looks great and works on Gmail as well (Deleted items+contacts). Finally!!! some sort of a 2 ways sync. for Gmail.

Yep Yahoo syncs contacts on BIS in Australia too. And it syncs better than the Enhanced Gmail plugin or app because it syncs the address correctly. Google puts all the address info in one area, Yahoo separates it into the correct city, state, zip, etc.

Does anyone know if it’s for yahoo.com accounts only, or will it work for other Yahoo managed domains (like sbcglobal.net and ameritech.net)?

Please tell me,
How long do I have to tolerate all the following bulshit supposed to be originated from Yahoo? Isn’t there anybody responsible to bring those people to Court, for trying to deceiving me into revealing my password which should then be used against my will and without my knowledge to all my contacts for illegal purposes?

I am a Google Sync user but since it worked so well with Yahoo, I decided to try with gmail.
Turns out all my contacts show “sync with yahoo” and I can’t sync them to gmail.
I am trying changing the Defaul service and a reboot and see what happens but I think it would work a lot better if I could sync OTA with ALL my accounts instead of just one…
Ok, it didn’t work…

I did manage to get both working lol.
And now I have an entry for each email. 145 contacts went 290!
On the third 3rd device wipe… lol
Can we have OTA calendar sync next so I can drop gsync for good?

They launched BIS 3.1 last weekend.
