Some people may like the feature RIM added that automatically checks for OS updates for your phone when you plug it in. I for one find the prompt quite annoying since I am usually running the latest update and don’t want to waste time waiting for the check to complete.
RIM has kindly provided a registry change that will let you disable this automatic check for OS updates. You can still do the check by manually clicking “check for updates” but you will not be prompted every time you start Desktop Manager.
Its as simple as going to:
- Start Menu->Run
- Type in regedit to open the Windows Registry
- Navigate to:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Auto Update]
- Locate the value called EnableAutomaticChecking and double-click the name.
- Replace the value of 1 with a value of 0.
- Restart BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
