Slacker Radio Updated To V3.1

slacker-thumb[1] Slacker let us know that they have updated Slacker for BlackBerry to version 3.1 with the following:

  • Update for dedicated RIM OS 5.0 builds
  • Smoother connection handling using RIM ConnectionFactory
  • Bluetooth AVRCP support (ffwd, play/pause, volume) – making it possible to control the app via Bluetooth accessories (great update for cars and headset users)
  • Faster wireless caching – Up to 2x faster

Another change with this update has to do with the free listeners, this is what slacker said on their PR:

“Unfortunately we have had to remove the “Up Next” artist and album preview to our free listeners. In cooperation with our content licensing partners, we have removed this feature of the free service. While we are happy to be able to preserve this feature for our subscribers, we do appreciate and understand the disappointment that many of our listeners to the free service have due to this change. This was not something that was done to drive radio subscriptions, but rather to meet the requests of those who are supplying our music content”.

For those using the free version of slacker that does not mean you won’t be able to enjoy free content, it simply means you will not be able to preview the next song or album preview. I never really paid attention to that feature when I listened to music on slacker so it probably wouldn’t bother met if it was gone.
