RIM Patents Input Interface for the Visually Impaired

BlackBerry Visually Impaired I was amazed when I first learned how popular BlackBerrys were with hearing impaired and deaf users. Now it looks like RIM might be also looking to target the visually impaired with this latest patent spotted by GoRumors.

The patent is for a MULTI-TAP KEYBOARD USER INTERFACE which provides audible feedback for input using input regions to type out numbers. They claim it might even be useful for email. It seems like they are trying to provide more than just visual confirmation that you have pressed a key to those who might have difficulty seeing the keys.

Should be interesting to see how this plays out since it could be an interesting new market for RIM. What do you think?
