Review & Contest: Urbanears Retro Headphones

Review: Urbanears Retro Headphones
[rating: 8]

They say everything comes back in style at one time or another, so in a nod to the 1980’s, Urbanears has come up with some retro headphones called Tanto for the BlackBerry. They come in a multitude of colors and have 2 styles available. The Walkman style, called the Tanto, and the DJ style, called the Plattan.

I got to test a purple pair of Tantos and love that the sound quality was not compromised. It sounds almost as if I was wearing earbuds. These headphones also have a tiny mic attached to the cord so you can answer and hang up calls just like the BlackBerry earbuds. I have received a lot of comments about the headphones on where to get them and how cool they look.

The cord is made from a braided fabric. Which looks very nice and seems a little more durable than the traditional plastic cord. The headphones fit nicely on my ears and the headpiece is adjustable so I get the perfect fit. My music is played nice and clear and I don’t have to remove them when I receive a phone call. I absolutely love these headphones and would recommend them to everyone would wants to look different. Whether it’s the Tanto or Plattan, you are sure to make a statement wherever you go. The only thing that turns me off about these headphones is the price. carries them at an astonishing price of $35.00!

  1. I was so painful to go from the Flock Of Seagulls to the Duran Duran hairdo’s but it HAD to be done! nuff said LOL

    • Ooooo! and who can forget! EVERYONE trying to look like Micheal Jackson wearing from the white gloves, to the “Thriller” jacket, etc! LOL

  2. BACK TO THE FUTURE. Wow. That movie was so ’80s, yet so … timeless. And it even featured Huey Lewis. Wow again.

  3. My favorite 80’s clothing…t-shirt dresses and sitrrup pants.

  4. My favorite things about the 80’s was the Rubik’s Cube, it took me a week to complete my first one & rollerskating! Where I’m from rollerskating was HUGE! It was the place I went after school after my homework was finished. I’d blast Whodini in my boombox and go hang out with my crew at the arcade by the PacMan & Donkey Kong machine, and pick to ther girls with their big hair neon colored tights and leg warmers!

  5. Ronald Reagan

  6. My favorite part of the 80s was playing “Return of the Jedi” with my friends after seeing it at the theater. And playing “Indiana Jones.” Those were the best thing ever back then. Playing with G.I. Joes and putting smoke bombs in plastic T-Rex’s mouth was pretty great, too.

  7. wow ronald reagen

  8. Once again a site that I follow multiple times every day, chooses to bar Canadians from participating. Unlike Canadian sites, like Crackberry, who don’t ever relegate their faithful US fans to second class status. My point isn’t these headphones, my point is fairness. Best of luck to the winner.

  9. My favorite was the TV shows I watched in the 80’s. I loved the Fall Guy, Dukes of Hazzard, Mr. Wizards World, The Million Dollar Man, The Hardy Boys. The tv shows were awesome back then.

  10. I apologize for sounding like I am playing favorites. We love all our BB users but international shipping taxes are very expensive and we pay out of pocket to ship.

  11. “What do we got? We got a heavily armed recreational vehicle here, that’s what we got!” – John Winger, Stripes

  12. Gotta be those movies: Dirty Dancing/Footloose/Greece

  13. I’m going to have to say the A-Team. Cause I can just picture Mr T wearing some styling headphones calling me a sucka!

  14. I know it is hard to imagine in today’s world, but back in the 1980’s MTV used to air original short films featuring popular musicians. They were called “Music Videos”. In fact, all of MTV’s programing featured these videos, and they even had entire shows dedicated to specific genres of music videos.

These shows were hosted by “VJs” (video jockeys) the likes of Nina Blackwood, Dr. Dre and Ed Lover and Mark Goodman.

I know it is pretty shocking.

Oh, and there weren’t things like the internet and cell phones (we had rotary dial phones and the card catalogue a la the dewey decimal system).
